Did you know that in a survey of psychotherapy literature by Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D. the following recovery rates were revealed:

  • Hypnotherapy 93% Recovery after 6 sessions

  • Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions

  • Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions

              Self esteem and confidence           £60ph

Personal confidence and a sense of self esteem are essential for happiness. To achieve these elusive qualities it is helpful to:

  • Study confident and successful people
  • Choose ones' thoughts and influences carefully
  • Develop a strong sense of forgiveness of self and other people along side a deep appreciation and gratitude for every small thing that is positive in your life.
  • Respect and like yourself

In a research study done with 60 college student volunteers (Spring of 2004 at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona), using hypnosis with ego-enhancement suggestions showed "significantly dramatic effects" in brain-wave patterns, subjective sense of self-confidence, and test scores.

In hypnotherapy we endeavor to create space for all of these attributes in the mind and then compound all these qualities through direct and powerful suggestion etc. Personal coaching techniques NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) can also be included to deal with particular material issues and blocks.

A personalized CD to teach self hypnosis with positive suggestions/affirmations will be offered to enhance the therapy at home.

When is the right time for you to start living instead of existing?

                  Stress, anxiety and depression

These 3 phenomena are really 3 different shades or levels of the same thing, but in its harshest form ie serious depression it can be a debilitating and sometimes life threatening condition.

Hypnotherapy first recognizes the activating event such as a loss, failure or bereavement. The activating event sets off thought processes that often get magnified in the mind so that a person:

  • Sees only the negative outcomes of loss and failure
  • Then continually is reminded of and ruminates over other losses and failures
  • Then considers it impossible to help himself leading to further negative feelings of helplessness and ultimately hopelessness

In a neurochemical study of Hypnotic control of pain conducted by Domangue (1985), patients suffering arthritic pain showed a correlation among levels of pain, anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression were inversely related to plasma norepinephrine levels. Depression was correlated with dopamine levels and negatively correlated with levels of serotonin and beta endorphin. Following Hypnotherapy, there were clinically and statistically significant decreases in depression, anxiety and pain, and increases in beta endorphin-like substances.

Once these aspects are in place certain behavioural responses ensue, such as:

  • The withdrawal into oneself and away from outside contact or help
  • The environment in which one lives is neglected eg not cleaning, or not opening post etc
  • Looking to escape from or stop these feelings of depression by alcohol, drugs or destructive behaviour such as overeating

Hypnotherapy will focus on the changes that a client can physically make such in their everyday lives such as becoming more rational and putting things into perspective. Hypnotherapy will also help the client become, through direct and non direct suggestion calmer, more relaxed and focused.

   Infertility, pregnancy  and birth

15 % of couples in the UK will experience unexplained infertility. The disappointment of being unable to conceive is usually attributed itself to stress. This stress then causes more stress and thus a vicious cycle is formed.

Hypnosis 'doubles IVF success'
By Caroline Ryan

Hypnosis may aid relaxation
Hypnosis can double the success of IVF treatment, researchers have claimed.

A team from Soroka University, Israel, found 28% of women in the group who were hypnotised became pregnant, compared with 14% of those who were not. The study of 185 women was presented to the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology conference in Berlin.

Stress

Women undergoing IVF were assessed to see if they were suitable to be hypnotised. Eighty-nine women were then given hypnosis while their embryos were implanted. Some underwent more than one cycle of IVF treatment. Ninety-six other women underwent embryo transfers without hypnosis. All received one cycle each. Dr Eliahu Levitas, who led the research, told the conference: "Embryo transfer is known to be a stressful time for patients, and it may be that the procedure is the peak of their stress in IVF. "Hypnosis may be related to a tranquilising effect. "Performing embryo transfer under hypnosis may significantly contribute to an increased clinical pregnancy rate."

Hypnotherapy can make a substantial difference to your rate of success (45%) and for those couples choosing to have hypnotherapy alongside IVF there is a significant increase in success rates due to the levels of relaxation and the power of visualization that are practiced by our clients.

Hypnosis has actually also been shown to lower the levels of Prolactin in  the body and Prolactin is a hormone that decreases ovulation in a woman.

According to published results of clinical studies (Am J Clin Hypn. 2004 Apr), the use of hypnosis facilitates a more uncomplicated birth process. In a separate research study done by University of Florida counseling psychologist Paul Schauble, it was also found that women who learn hypnosis before delivering babies suffer fewer complications, need less medication and are more likely to have healthier babies than are women without hypnosis. Schauble's first study involved adolescents getting prenatal care at a public health clinic. A group of 20 patients who received hypnosis preparation were compared with 20 who were given supportive counseling and 20 patients in a control group who received only the standard prenatal care. None of the women who received hypnosis required surgical intervention in their deliveries, compared with 12 in the supportive counseling group and eight in the control group, he said. "Patients who are prepared for labor and delivery in hypnosis are more likely to absorb and benefit from information because they are in a xrelaxed, highly focused state," he said.

A study being done by a team of University of Florida researchers is finding that learning self-hypnosis gives a patient greater control over the stress, anxiety and pain of medical operations and childbirth, overall. "Training patients in hypnosis prior to undergoing surgery is a way of helping them develop a sense of control over their stress, discomfort and anxiety," says Dr. Paul Schauble, psychologist. "It also helps them better understand what they can do to bring about a more satisfying and rapid recovery." He also said, "We've found, in working with individual patients, that they often feel literally stripped of control when they go into the hospital. The surgeon may do a good job of explaining the surgery, but patients' anxiety may make it difficult for them to absorb or comprehend. This can result in undue apprehension that can create complications or prolonged recovery."

                              Performance enhancement

Sports, dance, drama, music, driving, presentations and exams

The mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined to be real and thus visualization is incredibly powerful for performance enhancement and success. The psychology of learning teaches us that it is incredibly important not to build on faulty foundations of past failures, thoughts, techniques or habits.

Hypnotherapy for performance enhancement will consider:

  • The person's true motivation and goals for their 'art'-are they realistic and achievable?
  • A clients past successes and failures and exactly what defines the difference between the two.
  • How nerves or anxiety affect the client and how they can be best utilized to produce an optimum performance
  • The nature of a clients 'inner game'- ie how and what they think and how that affects each performance

In hypnotherapy certain techniques such as mental rehearsal and visualization, pseudo orientation in time-rehearsing winning for example with all the associated emotions- through to in depth analysis of successful thought patterns and behaviour have proved to be amazingly successful.

My personal experience and expertise with creative visualization sets me apart from other hypnotherapists and ensures the client receives the best therapy and outcome possible.

     Sexual disorders and dysfunctions

Whenever a person male or female experiences a sexual disorder or problem often they are too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it especially a GP. It is important to know and remember that most disorders are temporary and with the correct personalized treatment for each individual can often be helped immensely with hypnotherapy.

Acupunture and hypnotic suggestions in the treatment of non-organic male sexual dysfunction

Aydin S, Ercan M, Caskurlu T, Tasçi AI, Karaman I, Odabas O, Yilmaz Y, Agargün MY, Kara H, Sevin G.

Department of Urology, Medical School of Yüzüncü Yil University, Istanbul, Turkey.

We have examined the effects of acupuncture and hypnotic suggestions, and compared them with placebo in the treatment of male sexual dysfunction with no detectable organic cause. The study comprised 15 men (mean age 36.7 +/- 10.43 years) who received acupuncture treatment, 16 men (mean age 38.4 +/- 10.75 years) who underwent hypnosis (mean age 35.3 +/- 11.52 years) and 29 men (mean age 36.2 +/- 11.38 years) who served as controls. They were interviewed periodically; the patients' reports were verified by interviewing their partners. Men who received placebo had a 43-47% improvement in sexual function, while the rates of improvement in the treated groups were higher, but not significantly so. The success rates of acupuncture and hypnotic suggestions were 60% and 75% respectively. Although the improvement was not statistically significant, treatment with acupuncture could be used as an adjuvant therapy in non-organic male sexual dysfunction. The only treatment superior to placebo seemed to be hypnosis. A more effective treatment may be obtained by combining these therapeutic modalities, but this needs further study.

Hypnotherapy can help with the treatment of :

  • Erectile  or Orgasmic dysfunction, premature ejaculation
  • Dyspareunia (pain during or after sex), Vaginismus (tightening of vaginal muscles during sex) and Vulvodynia (Pain in the Vulva)
  • Impotence without medical cause
  • Sexual incompatibility
  • Relationship problems

Most sexual problems have an element of, or can be totally psychosomatic rather than physiological . Once a client has visited a GP to rule out any medical cause hypnotherapy can use many tools to help the client establish better relationships with their partner.

Hypnotherapy for sexual disorders can teach and strengthen relaxation techniques to address nervousness before and during sex. It can also create success through visualizations and mental rehearsal in order to develop better control of one's body and thoughts but help to break blocking thoughts about performance or  unrealistic expectations. Hypnotherapy can also deal with any ISE (initial sensitizing event) that may be causing the problem with regression or direct suggestion.

I pride myself on an especially sensitive and compassionate service which will be personal, caring but above all confidential and non-judgmental in all aspects.
