The BMA has accepted hypnotherapy as a serious and useful treatment for over 50 years but it may not be routinely used due to time and cost restraints. In 1955, the Psychological Medicine Group of the BMA commissioned a Subcommittee, led by Prof. T. Ferguson Rodger, to deliver a second, and more comprehensive, report on hypnosis. The Subcommittee consulted several experts on hypnosis from various fields, including the eminent neurologist Prof. W. Russell Brain, the 1st Baron Brain, and the psychoanalyst Wilfred Bion. After two years of study and research, its final report was published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), under the title 'Medical use of Hypnotism'. The terms of reference were:

To consider the uses of hypnotism, its relation to medical practice in the present day, the advisability of giving encouragement to research into its nature and application, and the lines upon which such research might be organized. (British Medical Journal, 1955)

It concluded :

In addition to the treatment of psychiatric disabilities, there is a place for hypnotism in the production of anesthesia or analgesia for surgical and dental operations, and in suitable subjects it is an effective method of relieving pain in childbirth without altering the normal course of labor. ("Medical use of hypnosis", British Medical Journal, April, 1955)

According to a statement of proceedings published elsewhere in the same edition of the BMJ, the report was officially 'approved at last week's Council meeting of the British Medical Association.' (BMA Council Proceedings, BMJ, April 23, 1955:1019). In other words, it was approved as official BMA policy. This statement goes on to say that,

For the past hundred years there has been an abundance of evidence that psychological and physiological changes could be produced by hypnotism which were worth study on their own account, and also that such changes might be of great service in the treatment of patients.(British Medical Journal, cited)

                              Hypnotherapy- From £50 ph-

 So what is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that we all enter into just as we awake or are about to fall asleep or even driving for miles on a soul-less motorway! It is described as a state of total mental and physical relaxation but with heightened awareness and thus you will be- and will always- stay in control.

It is not true that:

  • You will be asleep or ever out of some form of control
  • The Hypnotherapist can put any suggestion into the mind that will be detrimental or damaging to you
  • The Hypnotherapist can put into your mind a suggestion to benefit themselves e.g. "you will give me all your money!"
  • You can get lost in 'space' or suffer any lasting ill effects after a session of Hypnotherapy
  • Hypnotherapy is not a medically recognised therapy (it was cleared and recommended for use by the British Medical Association in 1953)

    It is true however that:

  • Hypnotherapy can help to make lasting and significant changes to your confidence and self esteem
  • Is a powerful tool in dealing with stress, loss and bereavement, various illnesses, pain relief and depression
  • Hypnotherapy is twice as effective and results last twice as long on a hypnosis weight loss program as opposed to dieting (Kirsch)
  • Hypnotherapy is completely safe and for many issues works far quicker than psychotherapy and many other 'talking' therapies
  • Hypnotherapy can treat quickly and effectively:

Cessation of smoking, weight control,

Confidence, self esteem, life planning and goal achievement.

Fears of : Flying, dentists, heights, crowds, going outside, animals, insects and anything else that you can think of!!

Habit breaking, panic attacks, nerves, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia

 Past life regression.

Loss and bereavement.

Sexual disorders and dysfunctions and infertility problems.

Performance anxiety and enhancement, exam and driving test anxiety

pain management and cancer, personal healing enhancement before and after surgery etc

Shyness, blushing, relationship problems.

For children: nightmares, enuresis, confidence, self esteem, thumb sucking and nail biting, performance enhancement, presentations/public speaking, exam anxiety, stress and anger

Drawing on my experience as a personal development coach, self awareness instructor and meditation teacher , I stand out from other hypnotherapists because I aim to treat every aspect of the individual and relevant issue presented for hypnosis. I offer a totally and I feel, unique and holistic approach!

So why choose me as your Hypnotherapist?

I passed my Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy with a first from the Institute of Clinical Hypnosis at Kings College London.

My extensive experience and knowledge of positive thinking, creative visualisation, attraction and projection techniques all serve to give the client specialised and unique teachings for all problems but particularly ongoing confidence and self esteem issues.

As an exercise teacher I can give additional expert advice on weight loss  and exercises that are sustainable and gives incredible shapeliness to the body in a safe and controlled weight loss regime. Remember that for sustainable weight loss there are no diets only healthy eating plans supported by hypnosis!!

Fears and phobias are known to usually have a conscious or subconscious Initial Sensitizing Event (ISE) and once that is found through regression it takes great sensitivity and creative reframing by the therapist to deal with and heal many of the emotions that will be around that event . Thus I bring extensive experience in healing and reframing for clients, from my coaching and Reiki work also.

I also specialise in teaching positive self hypnosis techniques that, along with creative visualisation, can help you to cope into the future without further treatment (and cost). Hypnotherapy to deal with all of life's stresses and strains including  loss and bereavement    is also very powerful and can allieviate the tension and emotional stupor that is often present alongside guilt. Hypnotherapy can also address the various types of 'failure' and disappointment that we all experience and that again often lead to stress, anxiety and depression. Meditation and breathing techniques can also be taught for a life time of calm and serenity.

Breathwork for calm and meditation techniques for stress are also an additional help when using Hypnotherapy to instigate the cessation of smoking. Quit smoking therapy is normally performed in one longer and more intense session and  thus costs £150.

Hypnotherapy for other types of habit breaking remain at £50 ph.

Creative visualisation performed in hypnosis and then practised at home can be the most powerful tool to release any unknown fertility problems particularly after all medical explanations or causes have been ruled out. Regression can also be used again to find from the unconscious mind any underlying emotional issue that could be affecting fertility.

Hypnotherapy for children is very successful with a wide range of conditions (see above list or relevant page).

Hypnotherapy is excellent for children because they possess such creative and usually vivid, imaginations. This ability and their general enthusiasm ensures that most children make extremely good candidates for hypnotherapy.

Neither the child- or the parent- have anything to fear or feel anxious about as hypnotherapy is just as safe and ethical as it is for adults. The irony is that as parents we may feel wary of 'playing with a child's mind' and yet hypnotherapy as previously mentioned is often more powerful and successful due to the very plasticity of that mind!

Finally, past life regression is often requested just out of curiosity or to find causes and patterns from the past lives which may be presenting in some form in the present day. I find this an extremely interesting experience and remain quite open minded about this phenomena. Hypnotherapy for past life regression is normally done in one session lasting around 11/2 hours or longer and thus costs £100
